Library starts new chapter with a bookish design

KANNUR: It might not be wise to judge a book by its cover but a bookish design for a library may not be such a bad idea. The facade of the new building of Lal Bahadur Vayanasala and Granthalayam, a library at Karayil near Payyannur, resembles a stacked bookshelf or gigantic bookrack and it has certainly got book lovers enthused. The 'bookish' design was suggested by veteran sculptor KKR Vengara. "He made a sketch using book cover designs, which was executed by local artist CV Sreedharan, who used bricks, roofing tiles and cement to create this interesting exterior of the building," said library president Appukuttan Karayil. The library, which has around 5000 books, will be inaugurated on February 3 by noted writer N Prabhakaran.
